Welcome to the Disunited States of America — a country full of polarizations and fragments.

Professor James Loewen, a sociologist at the University of Vermont, got it right when he compared American society to a salad where tomatoes are on one part of the salad, cucumbers on another and radishes yet on another.

America right now is like that salad — disunited, inharmonious and certainly not homogeneous. With our country being besieged by the threat of radical Islam, this is a terrifying prospect.

How can we defend ourselves if we are so divided? Whatever our differences, we need to come together for the common good and find solidarity.
