DRAPER Playing with efficiency and consistency could have been Carbon's motto Tuesday night, as it swept Juan Diego out of its own building.
The streaking Dinos, ranked No. 3 in Class 3A, stayed unbeaten (4-0) in Region 8 and improved to 16-5 overall, beating the Soaring Eagle 25-15, 25-19, 25-16.
The victory was Carbon's eighth straight, second sweep in a row and the sixth time in their last seven matches that they have won in three games.
For the struggling host Juan Diego, the loss the second in a row leveled their record to 7-7 and dropped its region mark to 1-3.
"Looking at how we've played in our region this season, I expected a strong effort like this," Carbon coach Cristen Johnson said.
The Dinos came out sharp, recording nine service aces in the first game.
Although Johnson points out that one of her team's strong points is passing, that aspect of the game against Juan Diego wasn't as good as hoped for.
"That's been our strong point, and that's something we've stressed a lot this season," she said. "Unless we get that good first pass, the rest doesn't matter."
Carbon was paced by offensive leader Megan Garvin, who finished with 16 kills.
The Dinos' Julia Potts was another top performer for the visiting team. The setter was solid and consistent all night long in controlling things on the offensive side.
After another good result this deep into the season, Johnson is pleased with how her squad is playing and the progress they have made."It came relatively easy, and that was expected," she said. "We're playing some pretty good volleyball right now."
