Deseret Morning News' religion columnist Jerry Johnston, after confessing "I have no head for business," wrote a stinging slander of free enterprise and "businessmen" in general by preaching false doctrine (Sept. 29).

Successful businessmen have learned by practical experience that practicing the Golden Rule builds confidence and goodwill in customers and employees. Christian-like businessmen compete by providing the best product or service at the lowest price. Unscrupulous, feuding businessmen compete by predatory attacks and secret warfare.

American free enterprise has flourished by applying the Christian values of its founders, not by mimicking European pirates, plunderers and political warriors.

In today's world, where big businesses and big governments have conspired to practice big warfare, what the world needs now is love, sweet Christian love of neighbor, customer, employee and taxpayer.
