Maria Yepez of West Valley City catches snowflakes in Parleys Canyon Saturday. The sight of snow falling on the valley floor surprised meteorologists, but they said it isn't going to stick around. "This is the second year in a row we've had snowfall at the airport," said Alex Tardy, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Salt Lake. "There have been trace amounts of snow — but it's not really measurable." The service reported approximately 3 to 4 inches of snow at 7,500 feet, and 4 to 5 inches in areas above 8,000 feet had fallen as of 5 p.m. Saturday. Alta received 4 inches; Olympus Cove, 3.5 inches; SunCrest, 1.5 inch; and North Salt Lake, Fillmore, Tooele and Springville each got 1 inch. Today's forecast for the Salt Lake Valley is bright and sunny with a high near 70, but more precipitation is expected Monday evening.
