The leader of the Wyoming Centennial Everest Expedition has been presented with the Explorers Club Flag by the first man to scale Mount Everest.

Sir Edmund Hillary, in a ceremony in New York, presented the flag to members of the expedition, also known as the "Cowboys on Everest" expedition, who accepted it for leader Courtney Skinner."It is a great honor and a tremendous privilege to accept the flag," said Dan Pryor, the expedition's base camp manager. "We understand that by being awarded the flag, we are joining the ranks of a chosen few."

Other expeditions to carry the flag include the first Apollo space mission to the moon and expeditions to the North and South poles.

The expedition, trying to put the first Wyoming resident and first woman on the mountain's summit, is to begin its assault on Mount Everest in September. Its 34 members come from Wyoming, Florida, Washington, D.C., New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Chicago, Wisconsin, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, California, Washington and Oregon.
