A bandit swinging a piece of pipe stole a large quantity of cash Tuesday afternoon from the Utah State Employees Credit Union on Capitol Hill.

The robber had entered the credit union several times Tuesday and talked with a teller. During his final visit, he swung a pipe at the teller, narrowly missing her, according to a police report.

Reaching over the counter, the bandit helped himself to nearly $3,000, then fled.

Witnesses described him as Caucasian, about 6 feet 3 inches tall, about 20 years old, clean-shaven with medium-length blond hair.
