B James M. Miller has been honored as Southern Utah State College's Alumnus of the Year.

The award was given during the college's Thunderbird Awards Night program.

Miller is dean of the SUSC School of Education and is a brigadier general with the Utah National Guard. He earned bachelor's degrees at SUSC in 1959 and 1967, respectively, in elementary education and secondary education-history.

He has served as dean of the SUSC School of Education since 1975. He joined the SUSC faculty as chairman of the department of elementary education in 1974. Before that he served in the Iron County School District as principal and assistant principal at Cedar High School and as a teacher at elementary, junior high and high school levels.

Miller is commander of I Corps Artillery, headquartered in Fort Lewis, Wash.
