A jury deliberated less than an hour Monday after two days of testimony and declared a former Bountiful man not guilty of sexual abuse of a child charges in 2nd District Court.

Bradley D. Brown, 29, of Salt Lake, was initially charged with object rape of a child, a first-degree felony. The charge was reduced to sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony, on Friday shortly before the trial opened.Brown was charged with abusing a 4-year-old girl last August in a home in Bountiful.

Brown took the stand in his own defense Monday, saying he had no sexual contact with the girl. He slept on a couch in the home's basement, and the girl slept in an upstairs bedroom, with several other family members in the home, during the time the incident supposedly happened, Brown testified.

The girl took the stand Friday, but her testimony was unclear and often contradictory. She answered "yes" to almost all of the questions put to her by prosecutor Brian Namba, sometimes contradicting earlier answers.
