Two Jordan Ridge Elementary School teachers have been recognized for outstanding work.
Joy Campbell was nominated by her peers for the National PTA Phoebe Apperson Hearst Outstanding Education Award. Although she did not win the national award, her nomination by those with whom she works is considered an honor by itself.Barbara L. Engen was honored as Jordan District's Teacher of the Year.
Campbell was cited for enriched programs dealing with American and Utah history, a Renaissance fair, production of Shakespearean plays and for creative field trips. Her students write and publish their own "Time" magazine, and she helped create a student chorus.
Engen was commended for spending extra time to create special programs for her students. She has developed enrichment centers and creative problem solving to supplement standard materials.
