Roger Young, 27, a former Deseret News staff writer, died June 3, 1988, at home.
Mr. Young worked in the newspaper's Utah County Bureau from August 1987 to January 1988, covering Provo, Springville, Spanish Fork and the Nebo School District. At the time of his death he was a technical writer for the McKinley Institute, Orem.He graduated from Brigham Young University in April 1987 with a journalism degree.
He had been a reporter for the Idaho State Journal, Pocatello; Utah County correspondent for Associated Press; an intern in Washington, D.C., for Scripps League Newspapers; a reporter for the BYU Daily Universe; and an intern in the Provo office of Sen. Jake Garn, R-Utah.
Mr. Young, a son of Waid and Dorothy Young, Shelley, Idaho, had served in the Florida Tallahassee Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Shelley 7th Ward chapel.
