A West Jordan man has announced his American Party candidacy for House District 46.
David C. Wilson, a 6-year resident of the state, is campaigning on a platform of "constitutional principles" and "less government, fewer taxes and more individual responsibility, not just because it may be popular at the moment, but because it is right."Wilson served four years as the Salt Lake County chairman of the American Party and later as state chairman.
"Principles are more important than popularity," he said. "We should maintain our autonomy as long as we are in the right, and we invite all like-minded citizens to come join with us in the cause of liberty."
Wilson is also campaigning against Utah's call for a constitutional convention, claiming "an inspired Constitution should not be put into the hands of less-than-inspired men at a constitutional convention."
District 46 includes portions of West Jordan and Taylorsville. The seat is currently held by Kelly Atkinson, D-West Jordan.
