Heads, you lose. Tails, you're elected.

Voting in a Democratic primary runoff for a seat on the Gilchrist County Commission ended with John Rance Thomas and Edwin Douglas tied at 909 votes each.Elections Supervisor Susan Bryant immediately recounted the ballots from Thursday's election, but the numbers didn't change.

Under Florida law, a tie in a primary runoff is to be broken by drawing lots, such as a coin toss or drawing straws.

A judge flipped the coin. Tails won, and Thomas will face Republican candidate William E. "Bud" Riffle in the November election.
