WOMEN'S SOCCER: With just 10 seconds left in regulation and 18 yards from the net, senior All-America Shauna Rohbock kicked in the winning goal to give BYU's women's soccer team a 4-3 victory over Cal Friday.
The win improves the Cougars' record to 8-2 on the year. Cal falls to 4-5.
After being down 2-1 at the break, Maren Hendershot and Sara Reading gave BYU a 3-2 edge with about 26 minutes left in the game. Then Cal's Tami Pivnik's penalty kick tied up the score at 3-3 with seven minutes showing on the clock.
Both teams played tough, each attempting to score the winning goal without having to play in overtime.
BYU remains in northern California for a Monday night game against 15th-ranked Stan-ford.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: Gee Gee Garvin and Brooke Leavens led the way for BYU's women's tennis team during the second day of the UNLV Fall Invitational Friday.
Garvin defeated Elizabeth Seiverling from the University of Tennessee, 6-4, 6-2, and Leavens defeated teammate Veronica Goude, 6-4, 6-3.
Other winners for BYU included Candy Reid, Tara Ferguson and Britney Young.
The Cougar duo of Kim Kelly and Leavens advanced in the top doubles bracket after beating Gabl/Bakken of hosts UNLV, 8-2.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: For the second match in a row Utah State University's volleyball team had to go to a deciding fifth game, and once again it turned out to be a loss for the Aggies as Boise State overcame a 1-2 deficit to win 13-15, 15-13, 4-15, 15-10, 15-9 at Logan Thursday.
MEN'S GOLF: Utah State's golf team fell from 10th place to 14th at the 15-team Long Beach State 49er Golf Classic Friday in Long Beach, Calif. Chris Moody, who was in third place heading into the final round, shot a 79 to tie for 13th individually.
USU's best rounds on Friday included a pair of 78s by Mike Haws and Kevin Blotter. USU also counted Moody's 79 and an 81 from Kevin Mullen. USU threw out Mitch Harris' 84 in the best four-of-five scoring system.
UC Santa Barbara cruised to the team victory shooting an 860.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: Southern Utah University's women's tennis team ran its dual match record to 2-1 on the young season after splitting two matches on Friday in Kansas City.
The Thunderbirds were handed a 5-2 loss by Creighton University, then rebounded to earn their second Mid-Con victory, defeating Chicago State 5-0.
SLCC WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Salt Lake Community College defeated College Eastern Utah 16-14, 12-15, 15-8, 15-7 Thursday night. The win improved the Bruins' record to 23-11 overall and 3-2 in the Scenic West Conference. Kali Surplus led SLCC with 42 assists. Tanya McArthur added four aces.
