Utahns with a confirmed diagnosis of multiple sclerosis may be eligible for the free loan of therapeutic medical equipment such as wheelchairs, portable ramps, canes and walkers.

The equipment is available to MS patients who cannot obtain assistive devices on their own, through private insurance or government programs. The program also offers a limited number of "cool suits." The cool suit, patterned after NASA technology, lowers the wearer's body temperature by one degree. Studies have shown cooling the body can offer temporary relief of some MS symptoms.

Multiple sclerosis is the leading neurological disorder of young adults, affecting some 500,000 people nationwide. Symptoms can include blindness, tremors, extreme fatigue and loss of mobility.
