Val J. Petersen, 45, has been named as the new city councilman to replace Jack Frost, who moved out of the city.

After a special public meeting Tuesday night, the council unanimously selected Peterson from a list of nine applicants.Petersen, the chief financial officer for Centennial Bank, has lived in South Weber for 33 years. His appointment is effective through 1999.

He told the City Council that preserving South Weber's quality of life is a high priority to him. He also said the fact that he's lived on both ends of the city is something that will benefit his service because he understands the diversity of the community.

Petersen believes his strong financial background will be valuable to the city, too.

"I'm excited to have the opportunity to serve the citizens," he said.
