Two roads on the Dixie National Forest have been closed to motorized vehicle travel because of flash floods.
Severe thunderstorms caused the damage, according to Keven Schulkoski, Escalante District ranger. He said damage has been noted across the district but was most extensive to the Allen Canyon Road, about a half mile from U-12 and the Water Canyon Road below Upper Guard Station.
"This action is taken to ensure public safety and to prevent further resource damage," the ranger said.
Schulkoski appealed to the public to avoid driving on wet roads in the national forest. Such a practice increases the chance of road damage, and that results in increased road maintenance costs.
