John D. Stephenson, 76, died Tuesday, September 29, 1998.
Born October 18, 1921 in Berner, Georgia, to Charles and Essie Jackson Stephenson.He enlisted in the U.S. Navy 2-27-40 and proudly served his country for six years. He served in the Pacific Fleet during World War II, receiving numerous medals and commendations for valor.
John married Ione Rowe April 5, 1944. He was employed by Western Colorado Power and Utah Power and Light until his retirement in 1976. He resided in Durango, Montrose and Nucla, Colorado, as well as Price and Helper, Utah. He was a resident of Salt Lake City for the past 22 years. Past Master Joppa Masonic Lodge in Price. Member of Baptist Church.
Survived by his wife, Ione; son, John D. Jr. (Charlene), Las Vegas; daughter, Karen Platis (Ken Martinez), Salt Lake City; grandchildren, Robert (Danell), Tamie Stephenson, Arizona; Josh Platis, Seattle; Lisa Gilbert, Las Vegas; brothers, Randolph, Russell; and sister, Bonnie; daughter-in-law, Marcia Stephenson; as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. John dearly loved his family.
Funeral services Saturday, October 3, 1998 at Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South, at 11 a.m. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital or the American Heart Association.
