Civil rights pioneer James Meredith is still crusading for the education rights of black males, only this time he's talking about elementary school youngsters.

Meredith, who 36 years ago became the first black man to enroll at the all-white University of Mississippi, wants to see more black men graduating from college."For every black male that gets a college degree, 26 black women get one," Meredith, 65, told city leaders, educators and students Monday in Carson, Calif.

He said black children should be taught proper English skills, "like you would a foreign language," to reach college and the business world.
