ALAN MOURITSEN, Grantsville: After scoring eight TDs in the first four games, Alan Mouritsen exploded for seven against Gunnison on Friday. Six came in the first half, five in the second quarter.
Mouritsen finished the game with 241 yards rushing on only 18 carries. He was pulled after scoring on his first touch of the third quarter."Our offensive line played real well and he really had an exceptional night," said Grantsville coach Kevin Butler.
He said Mouritsen is the best player he's ever coached.
"I definitely think Alan's Div. I material," Butler said. "He's the complete package. He's an excellent receiver, running back, punt returner and kick returner."
Mouritsen is excellent in the classroom. He carries a 3.94 GPA.
KELLY HELLEWELL, Bountiful: She is the prep of the week now, and if all goes well, Kelly Hellewell may be soon raising a 4A MVP trophy.
Last week, Hellewell only needed one half to score six goals in Bountiful's convincing victory over Cyprus. Two days later, she scored in the second-ranked Braves' 3-1 win over No. 3 Olympus.
Many figured the Braves would struggle this year after losing Caroline Putz to graduation, but Hellewell hasn't let that happen. The 3.9 student has led Bountiful to a 5-0 region mark.
"She's been a big part of our success," Bountiful coach Dave Wigham said. "She's been able to find the net for us."
Hellewell is nearing the 20-goal mark for the year.
