CROSS COUNTRY: Utah's Jeff Simonich took first place in the men's division at the Sundodger Invitational Saturday in Seattle, making this the third meet in a row he has won in as many outings this year.
The men's team also placed first overall with three of Utah's runners placing in the top ten of the 8,000 meter race. The women's team placed seventh overall with Johanna Nielsen finishing 18th and the first Utah woman to finish the 5,000 meter race.
The Utes will have a week off before they travel to Lawrence, Kan., to compete in the Jayhawk Invitational.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Utah State University's volleyball team had its losing streak extended to seven matches Saturday night, as the Aggies were swept by Nevada in Reno, 15-7, 15-10, 15-10. Utah State fell to 3-8 with the loss and 0-2 in the Big West.
Utah State's offense failed to show up in Reno, as the Wolf Pack held the Aggies to just a .085 hitting percentage for the match. Junior Tiffany Kitley was the only Aggie to reach double figures in kills, collecting 11 as she hit .350. Junior Lori Sargent hit .364 (4-0-11) and had 34 assists for the night. One bright spot during the night for Utah State was serving. Led by Nicki Fusco's three aces the Aggies served up a total of 10 during the match.
Utah State will step out of the Big West for its next match, hosting in-state rival Utah on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: UNLV scored twice in the second half to edge Utah State 3-2 on Sunday in women's soccer action at Aggie Field. Utah State fell to 3-6 overall, while UNLV improves to 6-3 on the year in its first season of competition.
The Aggies travel to California for two Big West Conference matches next weekend. USU will face Cal Poly SLO on Friday, Oct. 2, and UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, Oct. 4.
