Melvin Taylor Wells, 83, returned to his Heavenly Father's presence on Sept. 25, 1998.

He was born Jan. 3, 1915 in Salt Lake City to John N. Wells and Nellie Taylor. He married his sweetheart, Loris A. Burkinshaw on July 19, 1937 in Sandy, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 9, 1966. Mel retired from Chicago Bridge and Iron Company after 27 years of service where he worked in the purchasing office. Since he retired in 1976, Mel has spent much of his time working with wood, his life's love. He also enjoyed traveling. He was a self-taught master craftsman. He designed, created, and built many wonderful treasures which he shared with everyone. He was a handyman par excellence and maintained that he could fix anything (and he could). Mel had a quick wit and keen memory of dates, events and people. We will miss his humor and his many entertaining poems and stories. Mel's family was his life; he would do anything for them. We love you sweetheart, father, brother, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Loris; and four sons; Lynn T. (Janice) Wells, Burke T. (Kathy) Wells, Randy M. (Rebecca) Wells, Bradley T. (Lorna) Wells; a sister Connie (Fred) Hansen; and a brother, John T. (Pat) Wells; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
