An organ transplant team survived the crash of a twin-engine airplane, but the accident contaminated a donor heart and lung intended for two waiting patients.

The plane apparently experienced engine trouble after leaving Wausau on Thursday night, bound for Madison. It circled, lost power, clipped some trees and then crashed in a park just off the edge of Wausau Downtown Airport, said police officer Mark Klemm.Four members of the transplant team and the pilot were treated at a hospital. All were released except cardiothoracic physician Mark Cooper, who was in good condition, said hospital supervisor Pat Trempe.
