Although it is miles from the nearest body of water, the new Petersen Marine dealership at 98 E. 138th South, provides visitors the effect of a marina because the glass and concrete showroom is surrounded by a five-foot wooden dock.

A similar dock circles the interior walls, making it easy for customers to step into boats for close inspection. This new facility, a 20,000 square-foot showroom and 14 acres of land for display of 300 boats, making it the largest boat dealership in Utah, will have its grand opening June 11 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to Dennis J. Petersen, company president.

Petersen Marine has been operating in Ogden since 1948 and the two facilities together make it the 20th largest Bayliner boat dealership in the world, he said. Petersen said the project has been in the planning stage for several years and construction took 10 months.

The grand opening will feature drawing for prizes and reduced prices on new boats, accessories and service at both locations.

The showroom can hold 25 boats and yachts up to 45 feet in length and it features a 40-by-16-foot flotation tank and 16-by-16-foot doors that permit ease of entry for boats longer than 40 feet.

Full powerboat and fiberglass service, complete parts and accessories departments and ample storage areas are offered at the new site.

The architect for the new facility is Dan Cook and Associates of Ogden. Fox Construction Co. of Salt Lake City was the general contractor.
