At the same time impeachment proceedings are moving forward in Congress, an effort is under way to revive settlement talks in the Paula Jones sexual harassment lawsuit against President Clinton, according to sources familiar with the effort.

One source said Jones' lawyers have sent at least one letter to Clinton's legal team exploring the possibility, and that the president was considering the idea.A second source confirmed there was some form of contact exploring possible settlement talks but declined to be more specific. The sources spoke only on condition of anonymity.

Jones' sexual harassment case, dismissed by a judge earlier this year, is being considered by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, which is scheduled to hear oral arguments next month in Minnesota.
