WOMEN'S TENNIS: Eline Chiew advanced to the round of 16 Thursday at the ITA National Clay Courts Championship.
The fifth-seeded BYU player defeated Andrea Ho from Arkansas 6-0, 6-2 to advance in the tournament. Play continues Friday.
WOMEN'S GOLF: A young BYU women's golf team went to Albuquerque to compete in the Dick McGuire Invitational against many of the top teams in the nation and is currently in 11th place after the first round with a score of 315.
Freshman Carrie Summerhays led the Cougars with a first round score of 75 on the par-73 6,069 yard University of New Mexico Championship Course. She is currently tied for 10th place individually and five shots off the lead.
Britney Holt from New Mexico is in first place after one round with a score of 70. Jennifer Rosales of USC, and Elisha Au of Washington trail Holt by just one stroke at 71.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: Freshman Amy Kofoed scored twice as the Utes defeated Montana 4-2. Staci Burt and Tara McNeil accounted for Utah's other goals.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Utah State University's volleyball team put a scare into second ranked Long Beach State here tonight before falling in three games to the 49ers, 4-15, 15-17, 9-15 in the opening Big West match for both teams.
