Milton C. Mecham, a former football coach and dean of Weber State College, is dead of cancer at the age of 82.
Mecham joined the staff at Weber College as the assistant football coach and physical education instructor in 1940 after graduating from the University of Utah.He served in the South Pacific during World War II in 1945. He returned home and had a short stint as an assistant coach at the U. of U. before returning to Weber College as head coach.
Mecham went on to become the college veteran coordinator, Dean of Men and Dean of Admissions.
His son, former Weber County school superintendent Steve Mecham, said as an all-star quarterback at Box Elder High School his father realized the importance of education and that his athletic skill could get him there. He attended the U. of U. on a football scholarship.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the South Ogden Fifth Ward Chapel.
