Loren Gene Calkins, 75, died on September 20, 1998 at home in Lehi.
He was born on March 31, 1923 in Soda Springs, Idaho to William Orson and Mabel Lucy Horsley Calkins. He married Carolyn Durrant, December 15, 1948 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.Loren was a Veteran of World War II. He worked in the fire protection sprinkler industry for 40 years in the Northwest. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was active in the community and in the LDS Church, and was recently serving as an ordinance worker in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. He was serving as the president of the National Calkins Family Association.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; and seven children, Sylvia (Greg) Kent, Clarence (Sue) Calkins, Melinda (John) Martin, Brian (Pauline) Calkins, Edwin (Julie) Calkins, Gordon (Dixie) Calkins, and Mary (Barry) Malone; 29 grandchildren; two sisters, Aura Jeppsen and Mary Welker; one brother, Richard Calkins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ellis Don and H. Duane Calkins.
Funeral service will be Thursday, September 24, 1998, 11 a.m. in the Lehi North Stake Center, 900 N. 1200 E., Lehi. Friends may call Wednesday evening 7-9 p.m. at the Wing Mortuary, 118 E. Main, Lehi, and at the church Thursday one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Terrace Lawn Memorial Park, 1200 North Cloverdale Rd. in Boise, Idaho on Friday at 12 noon.
