Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Victor Washington Matthews, age 91, passed away September 21, 1998, in Salt Lake City.
Victor was born February 21, 1907, in Salt Lake City Utah, the son of Roland James and Elsie Guliver Matthews. Victor married Helen Blanche Marsh in 1931 in the Salt Lake Temple who helped him to raise four children Russell, Elmo, Karen and Tommie. Blanche passed away in 1963. Victor later married Thelma Loveland Lutz who passed in 1967. Victor then married Ruth Rigby on December 9, 1971 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Victor was loved by all his family including his wife, Ruth, his children, Russell Victor Matthews, Elmo Glenn (Diane) Matthews, Karen Blanche (David) Lawrence, Tommie Grant (Jan) Matthews, Kaye (Lloyd) Bybee, Anelle (James) Bleak; 32 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; brothers, Le Roy, Donald, Leslie, Byron, Robert; and sister, Hazel.
Victor was preceded in death by brothers Le Roy and Donald, sister Hazel, sons, Elmo and Russell, and son-in-law David.
His legacy was that he loved and served his family, his God, his fellow man and his country. He wanted it to be said of him "I tried"; his family adds "He succeeded!".
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 25, 1998, at 11 am, at the Canyon Rim Stake Center (3051 South 2900 East). Friends may call Thursday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, and at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the services. Interment: Evanston Cemetery.
