Utah Public Safety Commissioner John T. Nielsen is one of 32 state leaders from around the country selected to participate in the Toll Fellowship Program sponsored by the Council of State Governments.
The program is a weeklong seminar on policy issues and leadership development named in honor of the founder of the Council of State Governments, Colorado lawmaker Henry Toll.This year's program is scheduled for Aug. 27 through Sept. 1 in Lexington, Ky. Participants will come from 29 states and represent the three branches of state government, legislative, executive and judicial.
Gov. Norm Bangerter, who nominated Nielsen for the honor, said in a news release that the commissioner's stint in the program "will enhance his already distinguished career in government."
Nielsen was appointed public safety commissioner in March 1985. He has also served as chief deputy Salt Lake County attorney, in charge of that office's justice division.
