The names of 10 finalists for two judicial vacancies on the 3rd District bench have been forwarded to Gov. Mike Leavitt.
One of the finalists is Judge William A. Thorne Jr., whose post became open after he forgot to file his retention election papers by the March 17 deadline.Thorne was among the dozens who applied for the two vacancies created by his oversight and the retirement of Judge Michael Hutchings. Third District Court covers Salt Lake, Tooele and Summit counties.
Leavitt already has indicated he intends to reappoint Thorne.
The other finalists are Salt Lake lawyer Blake S. Atkin; Deputy Summit County Attorney Terry L. Christiansen of Park City; Elizabeth T. Dunning, Salt Lake City; David A. Greenwood, Salt Lake City; Assistant U.S. Attorney Bruce Lubeck, Salt Lake City; Deputy Salt Lake County Attorney Paul G. Maughn; Clark R. Nielsen, Salt Lake City; Randall N. Skanchy, Salt Lake City; and Assistant Attorney General Martha S. Stonebrook, Taylorsville.
