A man was killed and two people injured in two unrelated traffic accidents Saturday.

Killed was:- Ramiro Loera, 20, West Jordan.

About 7:30 p.m., Loera's eastbound car on the inside lane of I-215 hit a guard rail near 1000 West and then swerved right across all the lanes of the freeway, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Verdi White II. The car hit a power box on the right side of the freeway, rolled down the shoulder and came to rest near the base of the overpass at 700 West.

Loera, who was ejected from the vehicle, was taken by helicopter to University Hospital where he later died, investigators said.

Investigators Monday were piecing together the cause of the accident. It appears "excessive speed was involved; we're pretty confident on that," White said.

The freeway was narrowed to one lane of traffic for several hours while law enforcement officers investigated the crash.

- About 3 p.m. Saturday, a westbound car on 2100 South tried to turn left at 8000 West and collided with an eastbound car, White said. The impact caused the cars to slam into a third vehicle stopped at the intersection.

A man, whose name was not immediately available, was taken by helicopter to University Hospital, and a woman was taken to Cottonwood Hospital by ambulance. Both victims sustained serious injuries, White said.
