A Conrail freight train pulling 125 cars derailed just south of Yankee Stadium Friday morning, igniting a fire and disrupting commuter rail service for thousands of riders.

The train, which started in Selkirk, N.Y., was almost at its destination in the south Bronx when it jumped the tracks at 4:45 a.m.Seven of the train's cars, which were empty, toppled over, Conrail spokesman Bob Libkind said.

The fire was controlled half an hour later. No one was injured.
