Two sisters whose brothers died in a shed fire earlier this week have been placed into the custody of a relative and not returned to the mother, social service officials said.
Randy Ripplinger, spokesman with the Division of Child and Family Services, said a shelter hearing Friday determined the girls, for now, would be better off with a relative, rather than being returned to their mother, Brenda McMinn.Levi McMinn, 10, and Russell McMinn, 7, died in a Tuesday night fire in Roy after they sneaked into a shed and started playing with matches and a cigarette lighter.
Ripplinger said the agency had been called to investigate complaints of neglect against Brenda McMinn and had attempted to see her the day of the fire. Authorities said she was charged last month with third-degree felony possession of methamphetamine. Disposition of that case is still pending.
