I want to compliment the Deseret News on its measured, clear and principled editorial in last Saturday's edition. It made me think about my own reactions to Mr. Starr's report as well as the White House's responses.

I think that I can forgive the president for his human weakness, but I don't know if I can forgive him for what he has done to the presidency and other institutions of this country. I hope the hearings to come in the House of Representatives will give me some reassurance that our government still resides in the hands of statesmen, rather than spin doctors, reporters and partisans who place politics above principles.Allen S.
