Ban plastic, save the cows.

A prominent Hindu guru demanded a ban on plastic Wednesday, saying hundreds of cows were choking to death each year after eating plastic bags on the streets of New Delhi, the capital.Cows are passionately revered as holy by millions of Hindus. At least 40,000 of them roam through the capital.

"Not only cows, one day this plastic will kill us humans . . . plastic should be banned," Swami Vasudevanand Saraswati said at a news conference organized by the World Hindu Council. "It doesn't decay, it doesn't burn, there's no way to destroy it."

Autopsies of cows in New Delhi have found their stomachs stuffed with up to 110 pounds of plastic. The animals die a slow, painful death from convulsions, a government study said.
