A Provo man accused of dragging his friend underneath his car for more than 50 yards, causing fatal injuries, was charged Thursday in 4th District Court with automobile homicide, a second-degree felony.

Robert Triay, 22, is charged with causing the death of David Beck, 20, formerly of 903 N. 250 West, on Sept. 10, 1998.Beck died two days after the incident from the injuries suffered in the early morning accident. His injuries included a broken neck, skull fractures and multiple contusions and lacerations resulting from being dragged beneath the car from the driveway to the intersection of 880 North. Investigators say Beck was on the hood of Triay's car when he pulled away and then fell underneath the car.

At the time of the accident, Triay was driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the information presented to the court. He is scheduled for a waiver hearing Oct. 19 at 10 a.m.
