Barbara Sinatra, widow of singer Frank Sinatra, is being honored by the National Italian American Foundation for her work on behalf of abused and neglected children.

Liza Minnelli will present the foundation's Hope for Children Award during a gala Oct. 17 at the Washington, D.C., Hilton.The Sinatras opened the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif., in 1986 to treat and counsel abused children.

"Nothing got up Frank's ire faster than hearing about young people in difficult circumstances," Barbara Sinatra said in a statement.
