A herdsman and his 25 cows were electrocuted when an overhead high-voltage cable came down during a severe gale that hit the Moscow area on Tuesday, Interfax news agency said on Wednesday.

It said the man and the cattle died instantly.Gale-force winds whipped across the Russian capital and some suburbs on Tuesday, uprooting trees and tearing off roofs. City authorities said one woman was badly injured when the wind brought down a street lamp.

The authorities said the damage from Tuesday's winds was considerably less than from a powerful hurricane on June 21 that killed several people and uprooted thousands of trees.
