A West Central City father, his teenage son and a friend wound up in a hospital early Monday - each having their blood drawn after they apparently had a beer drinking party in their car.
The party led to a rollover accident with the car up against a tree in the back yard of someone's home.Salt Lake Community College police officer Steve Anderson tried to stop the car at 1:30 a.m. Monday because of a missing headlight, a Salt Lake police report states. The vehicle, however, failed to stop and headed west over the 1300 South I-15 overpass.
Anderson spotted the car on the north side of California Avenue (1300 South) and about 800 West.
It was there that officers found the 16-year-old driver, 38-year-old dad and a 13-year-old boy trapped in their car amid some empty beer cans and a full case of beer, the report states.
The older teen and father were "extremely drunk" when they picked up the 13-year-old for their outing, according to the report.
Both the father and 16-year-old boy were admitted to LDS Hospital, where they were in satisfactory condition Monday. The younger boy was released to his mother.
Police cited the 13-year-old with illegal consumption of alcohol. The driver was cited for DUI, the report states. Police said the father was charged with unlawful sale or supply of alcohol to a minor, a class A misdemeanor.
