1st quarter: Owen Pochman caps BYU's initial series with a 34-yard field goal. Quarterback Kevin Feterik set up the score by completing passes of 24 and 25 yards.

2nd quarter: Feterik teams with Ben Horton on a 74-yard scoring strike. The pass was tipped and bobbled before Horton weaves his way past several ASU defenders for the touchdown. Pochman adds field goals of 41 and 33 yards to increase BYU's lead to 16-0.

3rd quarter: BYU tailback Ronney Jenkins, who by game's end has a career-high 171 yards on 30 carries, scores on a 2-yard run. A fumble recovery by Tyler Nelson puts an end to ASU's ensuing drive.

4th quarter: Pochman extends his string of consecutive field goals made to seven with a 38-yarder. ASU follows with its first and only score - a 15-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Kealy to Lenzie Jackson with 10:44 remaining.

Key play: A 74-yard touchdown pass from Feterik to Horton gave BYU a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter. ASU never recovered.

Players of game: BYU's defense. The Cougars had a shutout going until the final 11 minutes.

Records: Brigham Young 1-1, Arizona State 0-2

Notes: BYU has now scored in an NCAA-record 288 consecutive games . . . Senior linebacker Brad Martin, who was injured in a car accident Friday afternoon, played despite having seven stitches in his forehead . . . A sellout crowd watched BYU's home opener . . . The game was televised on ESPN2.
