All of the video rental stores and church-owned department stores that have recently been running videotapes of the "Titanic" nude scene in their establishments should be aware that this violates the Utah Criminal Code section 76-10-1228. Public indecency laws not only apply to someone dropping their pants in public but also to nude scenes shown in a public place in "any motion picture, or any live, taped or recorded performance."
It also applies to magazine covers, a fact lost on many stores that recently displayed the nudity on the cover of "Rolling Stone." We control the morality in this community, not Hollywood or the large chain video rental stores headquartered out of state. Complain to the police and insist they enforce established laws.Thomas Merrill
