Republican leaders say the Senate will vote before adjourning this year on a bill that would make it a federal crime to transport a minor across state lines to get an abortion to avoid a state parental notification law.

The legislation would apply only in states that require minors to notify parents or get their permission before having an abortion. The House voted 276-150 for a similar bill in July."We should and will find the time to consider this bill," Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., said Tuesday.
