Our mother, Lois Taylor Russell, passed away at her home on the morning of September 8, 1998.
Born in Rexburg, Idaho, the 8th of nine children of Orson Shurtliff and Minnie Hegsted Taylor. She was raised in St. George, Utah. Graduated from Dixie Jr. College and LDS Business College in Salt Lake City.She married Harry Silas Russell on September 1, 1934, in Salt Lake City. Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1963.
She was an active member of the LDS Church where she held many positions. She also volunteered in her community for most of her lifetime. She worked as a medical secretary for several years, and after raising her children she worked for Sunkist Growers for 16 years. Lois was a graduate of the USU Master Gardener Program and she loved working in her yard. She also spent many hours nurturing her family and friends. She was a great example of love, charity, and selfless service.
If "the Lord loveth a cheerful giver", he truly loves her.
She is survived by three children: Janice (Robert) Brickey, Roger T. (Nancy) Russell, and Ray H. Russell; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her sister, Letha Taylor Staheli.
Service will be held Thursday, September 10, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. at the Colonial Hills Ward, 1455 South 1700 East. Friends and family may call at Larkin Mortuary Wednesday from 7-8 p.m., and at the ward Thursday, one hour prior to service. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.
