Richard Norman Graehl died at his home in Layton, Wednesday, September 2, 1998, at the beginning of his 85th autumn.
He was born March 16, 1914, in Silver City, Utah, a son of Edmund Adam Graehl and Maude Jane Hatch. He married the former Esther Knowlton, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were prepared to observe their 60th anniversary on September 23rd.Richard held numerous positions in the LDS Church, including Bishop. He and Esther also served a mission in Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Esther of Layton; nine children, Amelia Graehl (Bill Osborn); Catherine K. Graehl (Wayne E.) Calhoun; Mary Graehl (Eric) Sundstrom; Jonathan Knowlton (Daphne) Graehl; Adam Graehl (Kim Brown); Joseph Knowlton (Deborah) Graehl; Christopher Knowlton Graehl; Elizabeth Graehl (Keith) Call; Gretchen Graehl (Matthew) Williams; also surviving are his stepmother, Florence Groneman Graehl; half brothers and sisters, Norma Jean Boswell, Max Graehl, Harold Graehl, Kathryn Graehl Garrett; and sister-in-law, Ann Graehl. His family extends to 27 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Hew was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Norman Graehl, Jr.; and a brother, Theodore Graehl.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 1998, at the Orchard Grove Ward, 2435 E. Canyon Rim. Family and friends may call Monday 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Tuesday, 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to service. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
