A California man was killed early Thursday in a personal watercraft accident on Lake Powell.
Killed was:Jonathan Brett Homme, 34, Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Homme apparently left a campsite on the Utah side of the lake for a nighttime ride about midnight Wednesday. When he failed to return by 3 a.m., friends began a search but were unable to locate him.
They found his personal watercraft about 7 a.m. and park rangers were notified.
His body was found two hours later in 6 feet of water in Anasazi Canyon, about a quarter mile from the camp.
Park spokeswoman Char Obergh said Homme suffered head injuries. The watercraft sustained only minor damage. An autopsy will be performed by the Utah medical examiner.
Homme was the eighth person to die in accidents at Lake Powell this year. Three people have drowned, three were killed in boating accidents, one died in a cliff-jumping incident and one person died following a sand cave-in.
