A man has pleaded guilty to charges that he sexually abused a 10-year-old boy he met at the Dickens Festival last Christmas.

Robert Wayne Larsen, 33, pleaded to two counts of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony, during a court hearing in 3rd District Court Friday.Larsen had been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony, two counts of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony, and five counts of lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor.

Overall, the charges encompass seven victims and at least two separate incidents, said Salt Lake Deputy District Attorney Jim Cope. During both incidents, Larsen performed sex acts in front of the children. Larsen also fondled some of the children.

Deputy District Attorney Jim Cope said the plea was appropriate because it will spare the victims from having to testify and because it will give Judge Robin Reese ample parameters for punishment. Reese could order Larsen to spend up to 30 years in prison during the sentencing scheduled for Oct. 30.

In 1994, Larsen pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of lewdness involving a child. Court records show that he completed 36 months of probation and a sex offender treatment program.
