South Salt Lake firefighters John Nash, left, and Chris Wood of the South Salt Lake Fire Department pound the pavement at 3300 South near I-15 Thursday, asking motorists to drop money in their rubber boots. The fund-raising effort is part of the two-week national "Fill the Boot" campaign, a partnership between firefighters and the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which provides research funds and services to those suffering from any one of 40 neuromuscular diseases. The diseases affect some 1,200 Utahns. Last year, Utah firefighters raised more than $160,000 for the association.
