The Utah Grizzlies on Friday announced the signings of defenseman Jeff Sharples and right wing Rhett Trombley to one-year contracts.
Sharples, 31, is starting his 13th professional season and fourth with the Grizzlies. He has played 156 games with the Grizz, which ranks third in franchise history.A member of the 1996 Turner Cup Championship team, Sharples is 10th on the Grizzlies franchise scoring list with 21-69-90.
Sharples played 105 NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings from 1986-89, scoring 14-35-49. Last season Sharples led the Grizzlies in plus-minus with a plus-25, which was second among IHL defensemen.
Trombley, 23, is starting his fifth pro season and second with the Grizzlies.
in 47 games with the Grizz last season, Trombley scored one goal and racked up 205 penalty minutes. He set a Grizzlies franchise record with 38 penalty minutes in one game.
