"Anasazi: The Ancient Ones," a live musical pageant that premiered in 1987 in Farmington, N.M., has opened a limited run at the Dixie College Tanner Amphitheater in Springdale, near the mouth of Zion Canyon.

Playwright Sharon Hatch French stars in the production as Black Shawl, an American Indian grandmother.The production is based on the true life story of Sarah Mara Boots, a half Navajo-half Paiute girl who was raised by white settlers after her parents were killed. A cast of 46 actors, singers and dancers, directed by Henry Hoffman of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, tells the story of an Old Navajo woman and her granddaughter, Sarah.

Performances will be 8 p.m. Monday-Saturday, through Sept. 12. Tickets are $10 each.
