Corey Koskie had three hits, three RBIs and scored three times and Benj Sampson pitched six shutout innings as Salt Lake beat Albuquerque 13-0 Monday night in the Pacific Coast League.
Koskie led a 21-hit Salt Lake attack that featured a six-run outburst in the first inning and a four-run rally in fifth as the Buzz pounded three Albuquerque pitchers.But the Buzz still trail Fresno, a 6-4 winner over Tacoma, by three games with seven to play.
Sampson (10-6) set down 12 of the first 13 Dukes he faced and gave up only three hits and one walk in the six innings he worked.
The Buzz used four singles, a double and a triple to score the six runs in the opening inning off Albuquerque starter Matt Herges (3-5) and quickly take control of the game.
Chris Latham and Jeff Ferguson also had three hits each for Salt Lake, and Jamie Ogden hit his sixth home run of the season.
No Albuquerque player had more than one hit.
